Jazzcrazy is proud to profile Tina Featherstone

Tina showed an interest in music at 6yrs old playing the recorder, and started playing the Clarinet at 9 yrs old. Her dad played it when he was younger alongside Tubby Hayes and with band leader John Barry (Of 007 fame).

She got a Tenor Sax for her 14th birthday, played it solidly for 2 weeks and joined a band that is still going strong today - HYJO (Harrogate Youth Jazz Orchestra).

In 1987 - 1990 She studied Jazz & Contemporary Music at Leeds Music College.

After leaving Leeds College She played in various bands around Yorkshire, eventually joining 'The Shades Of Kenton Jazz Orchestra' in Manchester for 2 yrs on Tenor and Flute

From 1990 she worked at Wetherby Music Centre for 14 years teaching woodwind groups and co running the jazz band.

She now works as a freelance musician up and down the country and as an instrumental music teacher. She also teaches at St. Johns School for the Deaf where she has been for the last 9 yrs. In 2000 she studied for her PGCE.
